The North Haledon Recreation Commission, for the first time, will be offering a spring freshman boys basketball program for tournaments – not league play. Tournament games will be played in various locations throughout New Jersey on weekends with a final overnight tournament at the Jersey shore. There will also be one to two practices a week when gym time permits.
This will not be a recreational level program but will be for more advanced players. Parents will be responsible for getting their son to and from the practices and tournament games. The team will only be carrying ten players. All COVID-19 protocols will be followed and have been approved by the North Haledon Board of Health.
If your son is interested in playing and making the commitment to the team, please register by Friday, April 2, 2021. You will be wait listed so you will not have to pay until tryouts are completed and your son makes the team. We are hoping to have tryouts early next week.

Registration is now open for our girls’ and boys’ travel basketball teams. We will have two girls’ teams (5th/6th and 7th/8th) and three boys’ teams (5th, 6th and 7th/8th). Due to COVID-19 no games will be played in North Haledon. For the boys’ teams all games will be played at the Wayne PAL. For the girls they will be played at various gyms in Bergen County. We have secured limited practice time at Eastern Christian High School and Mary Help of Christian High School in North Haledon.
We will have a strict safety protocol that will have to be followed by all coaches, parents and players that will be distributed after registration. Since the State’s rules do not allow practice to start until January 4th we have a short turnaround time to form our teams since league games will be starting as early as January 8th. If we have more players interested for teams than spots tryout will be held starting the 4th. If tryouts are not needed practice will start on the 4th.
This will be a season like no other so we are doing our best to get it in. We have consulted with the Board of Health and the leagues (and reviewed all the State rules) to put in every reasonable safety precaution. We will also do our best to have as many practices as our possible but please understand it will not be to the extent of past years. Also, parents need to understand that State and league rules will not allow parents to attend games or practices. We believe live streams of the games will be made available.
In light of this short window please have your registration completed by Saturday January 2nd so we can start the program promptly on January 4th. The registration fee had to be increased slightly (to $150) to account for the higher league fees which included gym game usage costs. If you have any questions please contact me via e-mail and give me your phone number in the e-mail. email@example.com
